THE NEED FOR ABI

Dave James
Ministry Coordinator, ABI

From the beginning, the Enemy has put forth the challenge: "Did God really say...?" Over time, this question has fueled endless philosophical and theological speculation — speculation that has undermined the belief in the integrity and authority of God’s Word, as well as the biblical concept of absolute truth.

In this generation, these challenges have become increasingly sophisticated and aggressive, encouraging a “postmodern” worldview in which truth is considered to be personal, subjective and elusive. Postmodernism generally denies the concept of absolute truth. And there is a trend among many pastors and theologians to embrace postmodern ideas and philosophy. Though perhaps not strictly denying the fact of absolute truth it is suggested that absolute truth, if it exists, is essentially inaccessible to mere men.

While some argue that truth is ultimately unknowable, others insist that God is continually revealing truth through visions, dreams, prophecies and words of knowledge. At the two ends of this spectrum, subjective personal experiences and philosophy have become the foundations of theology, replacing both objective biblical truth and the authority of the Scriptures. At the same time, those who do believe in the final and absolute truth of God’s Word are often viewed as being closed-minded, arrogant and even unspiritual.

Both theological viewpoints appear to be contributing factors, even driving forces, in a worldwide religious convergence — a hallmark of the end-times. The concepts of God, man, sin, the Gospel, and eternal life are changing in fundamental ways - ways that are deeply eroding the foundations of historical, conservative evangelicalism. As this battle rages for the hearts and souls of men, the need for a definitive biblical response is imperative. The goal of ABI is to bring born-again believers back to a thorough knowledge of the Scriptures, enabling them to develop biblical convictions and remaining faithful to God’s Word.

The  Alliance for Biblical Integrity stands firmly on the biblical principle: “God has clearly said...”
