The Emergence of a Different God

Ken Silva, over at Apprising Ministries, has just posted a new (and important) article. It describes what could be called “the evolution” of the God that Brian McLaren envisions for Christianity - the God of Darwinian Evolution. He quotes McClaren: “... we are struggling to imagine a bigger God, a God who makes sense in the evolutionary universe of Darwin, Einstein, LeMaitre, Hubble, Heisenberg, and Kuhn ...”

This is the second time in a week that I have read McClaren making a positive reference to evolution as the mechanism by which the world as we know it came into existence.

To be fair, I am quite sure that McLaren’s view is not held by all (and probably not even most or many) Emerging Church / Emergent Church / Emergence Christianity leaders. Nor does he speak for EC as a movement in any official way. However, if there is one thing that is characteristic of EC in general it is that virtually every concept is always open for reconsideration / reimagining.
